Big One

Babae and Big One - March 19, 2023 1 47 24pm - Copyright.jpg

Big One first appeared to Jerzy Gray-Grzeszkiewicz in the Winter of 2022. He had been walking to the back of the house where the clothes line was to check on some laundry, when he looked to the right three Brushtail Possums were quietly watching him, a Jack, a Jill and their new Joey.

The Jack, had been leaning forward bobbing up and down towards Jerzy's direction, and what was at first a surprise encounter later changed the dynamics of the Garden, and Jerzy's life forever.

A second encounter a few days later happened outside Jerzy's room, as he was walking back from the kitchen eating a banana and whilst standing near the tree, the small Joey was learning their first steps down the branch towards Jerzy. Jerzy then fed the Joey the Banana, who took a bite out of it appearing to be deciding what to make of it, whilst under the supervision of Jack and Jill who was sitting no to far away.

As the Winter went on, again walking towards the clothes line, sitting on the swinging gate that separates the two small gardens was a Brushtail Possum quietly in the dark that frightened Jerzy when he first noticed the creature directly to his left. The Possum, turned and took 4 steps back and turned and faced Jerzy again taking interest. Jerzy carried on with his laundry, walked past carefully the Possum who was watching him and carried on with his evening making not much of the encounter.

The next night again, Jerzy went to take his laundry of the clothes line and noticed the same Brushtail Possum up on the tree, who at the sight of Jerzy quickly began to ascend down the tree towards the ground. later, Jerzy heard what sounded like a Possum trying to tear into a bag leaning against the vegetable garden. Jerzy decided to contribute to some the Possums luck but going into the home to retrieve an apple, which he sliced and placed on the wooden frames of the vegetable garden for the Possum.

During that week, as Jerzy was walking towards the kitchen from his room he was confronted again the same Possum. So he went into the house to retrieve another apple, and when he returned the Possum came towards him and let out a huge sign of relief that sounded much like a cry of joy as the Possum went on about taking slices of apple from Jerzy's hand.

Little did Jerzy know that he was about to enter into a friendship he was not expecting. Some months went past, and Jerzy continued to feed the Possum who waited on the handrail every evening to be fed after the sun had set and the moon had risen. In September 2022, the Possum arrived carrying her Joey on her back, who then Jerzy named "Little One" and his mother "Big One".

The rest is history, but as it continues, over the years Big One has had three Joey's who Jerzy has watched grow up. The first Joey who is a Jack was named Little One. Her second, a Jill, was named Babae. Her third, a Jill, was named Jill. Babae now has her own joey who as of February 2024 is now taking their first steps by themselves on the surroundings of the garden. Jill is now completely grown up, and amongst Big One and her family there are additions who visit as an extended family. Please enjoy the private gallery of Jerzy Gray-Grzeszkiewicz Trichosurus Vulpecula's, a selected amount from a collection of over 660 photographs that Jerzy Gray-Grzeszkiewicz is the photographer and copyright owner of who would like to publish the gallery with your support in future, and provide an in depth insight that Jerzy Gray-Grzeszkiewicz has daily journaled over the years.

Little One

Little One is now on his own. Please view a few selected photographs, from his first days on his own to later fully grown.

Big One with Babae

Big One now with her second Joey, nicknamed Babae from Baby. Babae responds to her name. She is now fully grown with her own Joey. Please enjoy a selected few photographs from Babae's collection. She almost died after eating some form of fungus and Jerzy Gray-Grzeszkiewicz had managed to get Babae into a cat bag and take her to the emergency vet at Pialligo where he took her at one in the morning. She came back home one week later.

Babae

Babae is now on her own in this private gallery. You will see some photos where Babae appears to be quite angry as she just arrived back from the vet after one week from being absent from her tree. She had eaten some fungus, and came to Jerzy Gray-Grzeszkiewicz after throwing up so much saliva it was hard to imagine how it was possible. She spent the night on the drip, then was put into care. Then arrived home. These are some of Babae's photo's from Jerzy Gray-Grzeszkiewicz private collection. She now has her own Joey and responds to her name. Loves all the luxuries such as red and green grapes, pinenuts, raw peanuts, cranberries, pistachio's and banana.

Big One with Jill

Big One with Jill. Jill happily as a Joey would walk all over Jerzy Gray-Grzeszkiewicz, wrapping her feet around his wrist and tail around his elbow whilst he fed her. She responds to her name and jumps up and down when she see's Jerzy whilst on the ground. Jill has an enormous appetite and is a very messy eater. Love grapes, pistachio's and especially easter buns. Some photo's from Jerzy Gray-Grzeszkiewicz private collection.

Orange One

Orange One is a second Jill. She appeared around the same time as Big One and has her own grown Joey now. Her name reflects the strong Orange color of her fur. She responds to her name, and walks into Jerzy Gray-Grzeszkiewicz's room without any hesitation and can happily sit on a bedside table whilst enjoying her breakfast. She loves Nana's biscuits amongst raw peanuts and pistachios. She often reaches out to hold Jerzy Gray-Grzeszkiewicz's finger whilst she uses her other hand to pick through a bowl of nuts. She has a funny personality where she will reach out with both hands to hold Jerzy's hand and she will hold them to her chest. A possums grip feels much that of a small humans.

Jill

Jill now on her own. Some of her earlier photo's from Jerzy Gray-Grzeszkiewicz private collection.

Orange One with Orange Plus

Orange One with her joey Orange Plus, enjoying their evening with a bowl of Chinese pinenuts, raw peanuts and Nana's Biscuits on the pillers of the front gate. Photo's from Jerzy Gray-Grzeszkiewicz private collection.

Shadow

Shadow is a new joey who arrived on the property. There are not many photo's of Shadow who is a Jack available at the moment, but Shadow will spin in circles when Jerzy is around to feed him. Shadow will also follow Jerzy around without hesitation. Loves easter buns, nanas biscuits and grapes. Take a guess from the three photo's which one inspired the name Shadow. Pictures from Jerzy Gray-Grzeszkiewicz private collection.

Babae and her Joey

Babae with her new Joey, considered by Jerzy Gray-Grzeszkiewicz as "The Happiest Possum" appeared in March of 2024. Taken with a long zoom lens, Jerzy Gray-Grzeszkiewicz feels this is one of his greatest accomplishments after Babae came to him poisoned from eating fungus. It was at that moment instinct took over to take Babae to the emergency hospital to get treatment, so she could have a Joey of her own to carry on her personality. The birth of a new Joey is always an exciting and joyful experience. Photo's from Jerzy Gray-Grzeszkiewicz private collection. Babae's joey is number 9 of the Family.

Thank you and we hope you enjoyed viewing some of the many photographs that have been taken by Jerzy Gray-Grzeszkiewicz over the years and we hope this can continue in the future with your support.
